DTV Converter Not Working? What JimG Did.

By CK Wilde for 3GenFamily Blog

Have you noticed the  TV commercials talking about the Digital TV Conversion?

It’s happening on February 17, 2009. The broadcast stations in your area have been preparing for the big switch to digital for quite a while now. On that date, stations will officially begin broadcasting using a digital signal instead of the old analog signal.

This will free up major portions of the airwaves for police, fire and rescue communications and for new broadband wireless services. If you subscribe to cable like my Dad, or satellite like I do, you won’t see a difference. Your service provider is handling the major change in broadcasting.

But, many seniors and folks in rural areas still rely on broadcast TV for important news and weather updates. A recent survey by Retirement TV indicates that up to 23% of seniors still didn’t know anything about the DTV Conversion!

If you or an elderly family member is one of the many people still watching free broadcast TV, your favorite shows will go black on February 17th unless you:

a.) get a converter box (discount coupons available) to use with your older TV,

b.) subscribe to cable  or satellite TV, or

c.) buy a new TV with a built in digital converter.

Your DTV Converter Doesn’t Work?

JimG, (Where Are the Stories That Affirm Caring for Aging Parents?) decided to get the converter box to use with his 6 year old TV set. He plugged it in and the box worked . . . kinda.  Stations would blink on and off. And, his favorite station wouldn’t come in at all!

With a little bit of experimenting, JimG found the secret combination to get his TV working for all of his stations and wants you to know that:

  • you can avoid having to pay monthly subscription fees to cable or satellite companies;
  • and, you don’t have to buy an expensive new TV.

JimG has written an easy to read, 7 page report detailing exactly how he did it so you can get your TV working, too.

The Digital Conversion of Free TV: Some Notes from the Viewer’s Side is a free report in PDF format. Find out how he solved the problem of his favorite station being missing without spending a lot of money. Here is the download link:  Getting Digital TV Converter to Work

    Thanks for the report! People were rushing to buy a converter in January but after the deadline extension (June 12th) suprisingly there hasn’t been that much of a rush. In these times any solution though that doesn’t involve a lot of investment is very welcome!
